NFDA Holds News Conference in the National Press Building, in the hopes to spread the word, our profession is ashamed of what has happened and will work to make things right.

M. Gary Eakes the Chief Operating Officer and Director of Public Affairs at Partnership for Caring spoke to the media of families dealing with the final days of a life and the how America must become more experienced in dealing with Death Care Providers.
NFDA Pres. Bob Vandenbergh, told the media that the recent actions in Georgia, Florida and California are unacceptable, and the plans of Allied Associations, Consumers and Regulators would be meeting Tomorrow to discuss the issues and to encourage new laws to make sure these atrocities never happen again, part of the five point program will be reassuring the trust the public has in funeral service, Educating the consumer, Educating funeral professionals, sharing of information with the public, legislators, regulators and members, raising ethical standards and encouraging other funeral professionals to raise their standards.
The National Media requested an additional news conference with other professionals in the field to help educate the public about the profession's proposed changes. Pres. Vandenbergh told the News people we would be glad to do that, tomorrow around the noon hour. This will be our first of many perhaps 2 or 3 more meetings to discuss and later propose rightful changes, tomorrow we will have representatives from ICFA, AARP, FTC, CANA and the Maryland State Board, as well as consumer advocates in the audience, forthcoming meetings would be looking for more input from all interested parties and associations. We are all for the GAO investigation into these matters and look forward to their findings.
(A DISAPPOINTMENT: NFDA President Vandenbergh canceled the promised news conference, the Profession's Washington Visit missed the opportunity to tell some calming truths on nationwide television radio and in newsprint.)
